1972-1978
Each year the post office provided a commemorative postmark on stamped and addressed envelopes which was applied at the London Special Handstamp Centre (LSHC), Mt. Pleasant, London.

Covers wanting the commemorative postmark posted at the Ground were forwarded by the MPO to the LSHC to receive the special handstamp. Ordinary and registered mail posted at the Ground was only postmarked with the ordinary MPO date stamp.
This postmark commemorated the opening day of the Centenary Championships Monday, 20th June 1977.
This postmark commemorated the concluding day of the Championships Thursday, 19th July 1877.
These postmarks marked the Ladies’ and Men’s 1978 Singles final days.
In 1978 Bjorn Borg retained his title and Martina Navratilova won the Ladies’.
1978 was the last year of this era that Championship commemorative post mark was organized by the Post Office.
